How to Care for Your Resin Pendant So It Lasts a Lifetime
Written by Nina, founder of Aura Pendants

You did not buy a pendant off a shelf. You chose a one of a kind piece that took days to make by hand, and with a little care it can stay just as clear and beautiful for the rest of your life. Resin is tougher than people think, but it does have a few simple likes and dislikes. Here is everything you need to keep your Aura Pendant looking flawless.
The one rule
Resin loves to stay cool, dry, and away from harsh chemicals. Heat, strong cleaners, and constant abrasion are the only things that really shorten its life. Avoid those three and your pendant will outlast almost everything else you own.
Everyday wear
Good news first. Your pendant is water resistant, so a little rain, a splash at the sink, or a warm afternoon will not hurt it. What you want to avoid is long soaks and high heat. Skip wearing it in hot showers, saunas, hot tubs, swimming pools, and on long ocean days. Over time, chlorine and salt water can dull the surface, and prolonged heat can soften or cloud the resin. When in doubt, take it off before water.
The three things to keep it away from
- Heat and direct sun. Long hours of UV and high heat can yellow or warp resin. Do not leave it on a sunny windowsill or in a hot car.
- Harsh chemicals. Perfume, hairspray, lotion, hand sanitizer, and cleaning products can cloud or etch the surface. Put your pendant on last, after your products have dried.
- Abrasion. Resin is hard but not scratch proof. Keep it from rubbing against keys, hard stones, or other jewelry.
How to clean it
Wipe it gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth, then dry it completely. For a deeper clean, one drop of mild dish soap on a soft cloth is plenty. Never use alcohol, acetone, nail polish remover, or abrasive scrubs, and skip ultrasonic cleaners. Those can fog or eat into the surface.
How to store it
When you are not wearing it, keep your pendant in a soft pouch or a lined box, out of direct sunlight, and away from harder jewelry that could scratch it. Laying it flat keeps the cord from kinking.
Caring for the cord
Your braided leather cord likes to stay dry. If it gets wet, let it air dry away from heat, and a little leather conditioner now and then keeps it supple. If you ever wear yours out, the pendant can be re-strung. Just reach out at chrysalisstrategies@gmail.com.
Will it yellow over time?
A quality piece made with dry inclusions and finished properly stays clear for years. Yellowing comes from cheap resin, constant sun, or moisture trapped inside from something that never should have been sealed in the first place. You can read more in what you can and cannot preserve in resin. Your Aura Pendant is made to resist all three.
Frequently asked questions
Can I shower with my resin pendant?
Better not to. Steam and hot water over time can dull the finish. Take it off first.
Can I swim with it?
Avoid pools and long ocean swims. Chlorine and salt slowly wear down the surface.
Will resin scratch?
It can with rough handling. Store it in something soft and keep it separate from hard jewelry.
Can scratches be removed?
Light surface scratches can often be polished out. Reach out at chrysalisstrategies@gmail.com and I can help.
